Shōunsai Shōno (1904-1974) was a bamboo craftsman. Born as Akihira in 1904, in Oita Prefecture, he studied under Sato Chikuyusai and became an independent artist in 1925. He was given his artist name by Kanzuki Tetsuso, the head priest of Myoshinji Temple in Kyoto. He worked as a teacher at Beppu Craft Guidance Center of the Oita Prefectural Industrial Experiment Station until 1940 when he was selected to participate in the Bunten.

In 1943, he received a special prize at the Shin Bunten Exhibition, and in 1957, his work received a special prize and the Hokuto Prize at the Nitten Exhibition. In 1967, he was designated the first holder of an Living National Treasure status by an artist in bamboo craftsmanship.
